Before You Call Us
If your AC isn't working, these quick checks take about two minutes and don't require any tools. They're the same checks our dispatchers will ask about on the phone, and they fix a surprising number of "no cool air" calls.
Checks any homeowner can do (no tools needed):
Look at your thermostat. Is the display on? If it's blank or very dim, replace the batteries.
Make sure the thermostat is set to COOL with the target temperature a few degrees below the current room temperature.
If you already know where your air filter is, take a quick look. A clogged filter can stop cooling.
Only if you're comfortable doing so:
Reset the HVAC breaker at your panel — once only. If it trips again, stop and call us.
Walk around your outdoor unit and clear away leaves, branches, or debris. Don't touch the unit itself.
Stop and call us right away if:
You smell natural gas — call 911 first, then us.
You see smoke, smell something burning, or see water leaking.
The breaker won't stay set after a single reset.
What Not to Try Yourself
For your safety and to keep your equipment warranty valid, we ask that you never attempt the following — even if you've watched videos or done electrical work before:
Capacitor inspection or replacement. Capacitors store a lethal electrical charge even after the breaker is off. We've seen serious injuries from this.
Refrigerant work of any kind. Federal law (EPA Section 608) requires a license. Improper handling damages your system and is illegal.
Opening any access panel on the indoor or outdoor unit.
Electrical work beyond a single breaker reset.
Diagnosing what's broken from sounds, smells, or symptoms. We need to see the system to give you an honest answer.
We'd rather come out and help than have you risk an injury or void your warranty. Our diagnostic call is $89 and we apply it toward any repair you authorize.
